Because we are independent of insurance contracts, our recommendations are guided solely by medical expertise and your goals—not by billing codes or coverage restrictions. This means more flexibility, more availability, and a truly bespoke healthcare experience.

Why don’t we accept insurance?

East Bay OBGYN is designed to provide a level of attention, time, and personalization that simply isn’t possible within the constraints of insurance contracts. Insurance companies decide what is covered, how often, and at what reimbursement rate—often prioritizing efficiency over thoroughness.

By remaining independent, we can offer longer visits, flexible scheduling, and a truly customized approach to your care. This allows us to focus entirely on your needs without rushing or following a one-size-fits-all checklist.

While we do not bill insurance directly, many patients with PPO plans are able to seek out-of-network reimbursement for our fees. Most hospital-based and outpatient services are often covered by insurance plans, and we are happy to provide the documentation needed to support these claims.

Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for visits?

If you have a PPO insurance plan, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement of our fees through your plan’s out-of-network benefits. After your visit, we will provide you with a detailed superbill that includes all necessary billing codes and payment information. You can submit this directly to your insurance company, following their specific claims process. We recommend contacting your insurer in advance to confirm your coverage and reimbursement rates.

How do labs and imaging work if you don’t take insurance?

You can still use your insurance for all labs and imaging. These services are billed separately by the lab or imaging center, and in most cases, they’ll bill your insurance directly. Your coverage and any out-of-pocket costs depend on your individual plan. We’ll take care of sending the orders and coordinating everything for you, and you’ll just check in with your insurance company if you want to confirm specific coverage details.

Can I still see you if I have insurance?

Absolutely. Over 90% of our patients have insurance. Our practice works alongside your insurance, but we don’t bill insurance directly for visits. Instead, you pay at the time of your appointment, and we will provide you with an itemized receipt (superbill) that you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

All labs, imaging, medications, and referrals can still be run through your insurance, just as they would in a traditional practice. This way, you keep the benefits of your insurance coverage while also having direct access to high-quality, personalized care.

Can I be seen here if I have Medicare or Medicaid?

Accepted Answer

If you have Medicare or Medicaid, you are generally not eligible to receive covered medical services (such as routine gynecologic care, procedures, or medical management) at this clinic on a cash-pay basis.

However, you may receive non-covered services, such as:
 • Aesthetic treatments (e.g., vaginal rejuvenation, cosmetic procedures)
 • Wellness and weight management programs
 • Hormone optimization and other elective services not reimbursable by Medicare or Medicaid

Will you file a claim to my insurance on my behalf?

Accepted Answer

No. We do not submit claims to insurance or communicate with insurance companies on your behalf. Payment is due at the time of service, and we will provide an itemized receipt (superbill) upon request for your personal records.

Question 22

What happens if I didn’t realize I had Medicare or Medicaid?

Accepted Answer

We require all patients to sign an Insurance Attestation Form stating that they do not have active Medicare or Medicaid coverage before receiving services.
If it is later discovered that a patient misrepresented their coverage, the patient will remain financially responsible for all charges, and the practice will not submit or refund claims.
